I've just seen this, I found the sketchers quite narrow but pretty long...which is perfect for my feet, but may not be for yours...this is probably a couple of months too late to matter.
Incidentally, I have just chucked my pair out after 10 months of running in them. Really liked them, initially I didn't think I'd do more than the odd 5k in them, but they were nice. I reviewed them here over the 10 months I had them rather than just a review after a few hours like normal.
Hi - I currently live and run in Chicago, it gets down to -20c in winter and the wind is even colder. I tend to wear a hoody and then a windproof jacket over the top of that with hat, gloves, long trousers and thick socks.
As for a backpack - I use a motorcycle one for three reasons, it's big enough for my work things, it fits really close to the body and clips on so it doesn't swing around and it's waterproof. I guess they are three things you need in both a running backpack and a motorcycle one! You can't seem to buy my one in the UK, but it's really similar to this type of thing.
I think sitting around is your only option. I had similar problems before a marathon, ran the race and it's the worst pain I've ever experienced, especially after. It took me a week to be able to walk on it again and over a month with no exercise other than walking and light stretching before I was able to start jogging. Ibuprofen should help, but as Mr Puffy points out - if it's torn then that's quite different from if it is tendonitis.
