I am resting with shin splints at the moment and I think that is the only option. I started with the pain in my left calf in August then stupidly carried on and ran a half marathon in September. Since then I have been resting for a couple of weeks at a time then trying to run again but it keeps coming back.
I haven't been to see anyone but from reading the information on the internet I have all the classic signs of shins splints - the only recovery is lots of icing of the area, stretching the calves and 4-8 weeks rest. Someone told me that shin splints originate from weak ankle / calf muscles so it is all linked to the same thing.
Although I was hoping to do another half in January I have decided to rest now until at least early December then see how it feels.
I'm no expert though and as I say I haven't had a professional opinion.
My pain is on the inside of my left leg, a couple of inches above the ankle and it is tender if I press it, although getting better now.
