OK - colours to the mast - I know all about this very real condition.  I've read about a great group started for ladies and think this would be a good idea where I live in Huddersfield, though I wonder can it be a mixed sex group?  I have been told and have confirmed by my own experience that exercise helps and I want to extend this to others, even if you have never ran before - we all start from scratch.  Inbox me or indeed let me know if you are running a group elsewhere as I want to get one going but do not want to duplicate the efforts of others who may be close to where I live)

Just purchased a book called about exercise physiology and functional anatomy as I like to know what my quinquagenarian body and that of my clients are doing and found it pitched at th right level (L3/A levelish) for studying the changes we all go through in response to exercise - I got it very cheap as it was 2nd hand.  Yes stop and go are good, but also being able to figure out when you are doing too much or indeed the wrong type of training is equally as good.  The book keeps one this side of being blinded by science.  Keep learning and above all, enjoy!

I use an old Mountain Bike, keep the gearing low so no straining chain/sprockets and it pumps the legs - over 4 years including initial purchase I have spent £400 and that was with a few cables and services - unless you do mega distances, why spend.  Only thing I wanted was an alloy frame to save some weight, but then again I'm a big bloke.
