Mace thanks, miles off a PB but I think my head wasn't really in it - I remember a water station where I stopped the Garmin - forgetting it was a race, d'oh !

RJ I agree with the others - use the HRM for training but don't look at it in a race. You can't expect to keep to a constant HR anyway as you'll drift up, particularly over the last 6 miles. Have faith, ignore the maranoia...

dsrfcno1 congrats on your first mara. I had knee trouble in my first few mara's - half squats with back against the wall, stair climbing, one legged squats. But the real cure is that your body adapts to higher mileage...
