I am not a pirate but do follow a few of you on Facebook and twitter. Outlaw was my first full length race, intended as a bit of a warmup for Wales in September. My actual race went really well, came out water in 1.09, was really aiming for around 1.05 but got a bit beaten up at the beginning and didn't really start off and get into a rhythm as quickly as I'd hoped, also on reflection had only done one swim over 4000m in training, shouldve done a few more! The bike went pretty well, found the windy parts hard work and started to get a bit fed up around 90 mile mark but all in all I was pleased, bike time was 6.08. Run also went smoothly until mile 22 ish where I stopped to drink at feed station and almost wobbled over, the lady on the feed station looked a bit worried and asked if i was ok, so i put myself under the shower and took a couple of minutes to cool down and eat/drink before carrying on. Was surprised that after feeling so wobbly that managed to run last two laps ok, finished run in 4.28, total time of 11:58:58...didn't really have much chance to be pleased about this as semi collapsed in toilets and had to be taken to med tent and out on drip. My blood sugar was tested and was ok but blood pressure low, so obviously dehydrated. This annoyed me as i had drank 5 bottles on bike and at every feed station on run! A bit scared about wales now and need to work out better hydration plan, any advice much appreciated.
