Thanks for the responss

@Andi McGill 2

There is a pretty big elevation differnece! Snowdon looks great but is booked up already!

Loch Ness sounds quite fun! Best of luck with the training.

I will have access to a gym, I currently focus on freeweights (bench, shoulder press e.t.c combined with quite a lot of core (including chins)

Sounds like running 4 times a week is the way to go?!

@Cougie

Is it? I read up re: the FIRST marathon training and it seemed to think 3 times a week with 2 times a week cross train was a good way to go.

I dont think Ill build much muscle training once a week! But I appreciate your point.

I was wondering (hoping?!) that cross trainer provided a good cross over for legs for running?

I do enjoy running...

Ok. Maybe ill need to look at a different plan then if 3 x a week isn't running. Im very much into running and competitive so maybe Ill choose 6 x week.

Hi guys - im looking for a bit of advice Im going to run a marathon (snowdon or chester) in 6 months and was wondering if I could get some peoples thoughts on my training plans. First of all im very confused - so many training plans out there! So I thought key principles of doing what I enjoy (speed/hills, cross train and weights) with rest. The FIRST 3 x a week plan seems similar to what I would do. Noticeably when I aimed to train 6 times a week I never managed to fit in all the sessions. So my plan... (each one day a week). Cross Train 50-60mins on cross trainer (hard) Intervals between 30-90 hills and or flats Tempo 60-90 mins reasonbly fast Long run - progress 2hrs - 4.5hrs Weights - mix of free weights and core (like chin ups) And Rest x 2 Any thoughts? I like to keep my plans relatively fleixible. My big concern is theres not enough running in there! Should thay be a concern. Moreover im not too sure what i should do for weight training besides chin ups? Any thoughts good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks Rich

I'm considering doing the 30/40 mile ultra in lieu of Cardiff 50.

Does anyone know whether the terrain will be suitable for road running shoes/road runner? Or is it possible it might be muddy e.t.c?

Thanks

Rich

I don't understand why? Surely they are in no way specific to the event?

Ok thanks for letting me know Andrew.

I think Ive made a hash of the training. I've also done hill running and intervals and thinking about it those are in no way specific to the exercise as I will not be running such steep hills/running anywhere near the speed. You live and learn!
