You are aware this is a newbie thread and most of us are casual runners and not aiming at being hardcore Olympiads?

It sounds a but eliteist to me if only official events count as running that distance. I've run proper races, 5k, 10k, and I know the difference between the race and just running the distance. I'm not mad on organised events personally, I prefer running on my own. If someone on here runs 10k today is anybody in here really going to tell them, 'no that doesn't count, you didn't pay an entry fee so you've not run 10k'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not someone who would go around saying I've just run a half marathon, but I would tell them I've run a half marathon distance.

Not posted in a few weeks but I have been keeping on top of my running. Just thought I'd pop in, say hi and ask a quick question.

On Tuesday I am running the half marathon distance for the first time. This is not any official event, just me going out and running. My question is, if it's not an official 'organised' event can I still claim I have run a half marathon? I know it won't be an official time, not bothered about that, just whether I'd be fooling myself if I started thinking, 'Well that's a half marathon done!'.

I also only stuck loosely to the c25k plan, they are guidelines more than anything because everyone if different. I am now loosely doing a half marathon plan.

Yesterday afternoon I did an 11 mile run in 1:42:42. After my stretching I finally plucked up the guts to take an ice bath. It was only bad for the first minute but then I got used to it and managed to sit there shivering for about 15-20 mins. My legs are still quite stiff and achey this morning but not quite as bad as after last weeks 10 miler. It's true what they say about your heart and lungs getting fitter quicker than your muscles and tendons. I didn't feel tired or particularly out of breath at all during the run but my legs were getting heavier and heavier. It was a good run though averaging 9:20 per mile, a little slower than last weeks pace of 9:02.

I hope those of you injured are feeling better soon.

Since my 10 mile run last Sunday I've only had one 2 mile run midweek so I'm feeling quite well rested and I've treated this as my first rest week. So, hopefully I'll do another 10 mile run tomorrow. I'll feel extra inspired after watching the Olympic torch pass by in the morning.

Nice to see some new faces and also some good times for their 5k's.
