In the bright spring and summer mornings I run between 6am and 7am and have been known to get up at 5am to do my long run that I missed the previous day because of bad weather! I love morning running - no better way to start the day. However, as a solo female runner I do not feel very safe running in the dark and during the winter my running is restricted to 9am onwards at week ends and if I have time off work to do a day run during the week. I have recently joined a gym and plan to do some winter training (speed and short distance)on the treadmill and the indoor track and leave my longer runs for the outdoors at the week end. No more early morning runs until at least March for me! Roll on Springtime!
Like everything in life there are pros and cons to using a treadmill. Although running for almost 20 years I had never used a treadmill until this year. Due to injury followed by surgery followed by a very slow recovery my physio recommended the treadmill. Certainly it doesn't have the feel good factor of running outdoors but for me it is the next best at the moment. I can tailor my 'running' to suit my needs. Also for the first time I can see the value of the treadmill as part of my winter programme when dark nights and mornings and bad weather are restrictive I now look forward to fitting in a few treadmill sessions.
I considered buying a treadmill this year but then decided to use my budget on joining the gym. I'm happy with that decision...I have access to so much more equipment which will keep me interested over the winter months. It's worth thinking about, Jane.
For the Club Le Santa November Challenge it is costing me 824euro for one week - that's sharing with one other, flights (from Dublin)and apartment. If we had a third or fourth person it would be cheaper again. Sorry I don't know the conversion for UK pounds.
Hi....I'm going to Club Le Santa for the November Challenge. Going solo as wouldn't get childminder for one week to allow husband to come too. I get to go as we agreed!! that I wanted to go more than him! (he runs too). I'm travelling from Dublin with Sports Travel International who have matched me up to share (on my request)with another solo female, who I have yet to meet. Sports Travel In'nal were prepared to match me up with someone from the UK Branch if they could not locate another solo person travelling from Ireland. I reckon we are going with joint interests and expect all to go well. Looking forward to going and may get to put a face on some of you guys!
