Did both this year and I am a very average runner. I ran to finish rather than go for a PB. Had really bad IT Band issues so unable to go much quicker anyway. If I had my way again I would do more miles and start doing longer distances now. In between both I wore compression socks which were fantastic and really helped with lactic acid build up and did gentle runs (2/3 miles twice) between stretching daily and foam rolling. Doing Brighton next year and looking for another Marathon after that as failed through the ballot again for VLM. Good luck and if an average to poor runner like me can complete these then you will smash it.
London done and a truly world class atmosphere from the support which was amazing and relentlessly loud!! Loved it and pleased to complete the two in a week now to join a running club to improve my fitness and times..think this coming Sunday won't be a marathon distance but hopefully a couple of runs this week. Thanks for all the support and advice everyone and proof I do need to train harder however pleased to complete with limited training and 15 mins quicker!!
Hi Big Bertie and good luck for Sunday. I am no pro (see my blogs for advise from real pro's) but having just done the Brighton Marathon on Sunday and doing London this week I can give a bit of a perspective on my recovery (though a week between)...
1) Compression socks worn most of the week - really helped and put on as soon as finished Brighton.
2) Have been walking loads especially first two days - not really seen the point in running as my walking has got the aches out
3) Milkshake, sports drinks, and crisps straight after finishing
4) Rested today / Sat.
5) If I had a similar break as yours I would def do some shorter runs but at a slow MP.
Good luck with London I am sure you will smash both!!
Thanks guys and well done Redhead you sound like another pro and well done on your PB!! Only really got into running in the last year or so but loving the freedom to just run and added fitness that it is bringing. Will join a running club soon as well to improve everything I do (hopefully). Race number collected yesterday, Physio seen and now rest, drink and eating!! Good luck one and all for London whatever your ability and don't forget to put on your ribon in respect for Boston!!
