Hi all,

been out of touch for a couple of weeks, excuse been busy and a long weekend away.

Did my half marathon on Saturday around Loch Leven at Kinross. Having run a 1:59 in training I was hoping to get it down to 1:55 but actually did it in 1:52 and a few seconds (still waiting for official times to be posted) so I was well pleased. A cool day and breezy with the last 2 miles in to a headwind, Got a Ron Hill running top as reward.

My last half marathon was 20 years ago when I ran 1:42, so a 10 minute drop in 20 years feels acceptable, as well as something to aim for.

Not sure what I will do next. I will probably ease the mileage down to a couple of 5 mile runs a week, now that I can finally get out on to the mountains. I plan to do a few overnight camps and tick off some of the big Cairngorm summits this Summer. I also want to get back out on the bike which I have been neglecting.

What I don't want to do is lose all the running fitness I have gained, so I might just do a couple of 10k races over Summer.

2013 - 171 miles

Grendel - Surprised to hear you have Karrimor shoes after the thread when you asked about them, and the consensus seemed to be don't go near them.

I will be interested to hear how they perform

Hi All,

B2B - I'm a big fan of Montane gear (and RAB) and do most of my walking in the Terra pants.

That 50 is getting ever closer - I thought I would have seen mention of some longer runs, or are you easing back now.

Welcome Froglet - I did a similar plan to start me off, but you need to make sure you resist the urge to run too fast early on in your comeback- that's the way to an early injury. Hold back and it will all come good in the end.

As you say we all think we can just come straight back and run like we used to. Sounds like the Marathon might be something to keep on the back burner and just enjoy the shorter distances. Its a distance I would like to do at some point, just don't fancy having to do all those long runs.

Gamineez - Good luck with the training for the half. I built my long run up by a mile a week from 6 to 13 and it seems to have worked well for me. It was just the snow and ice that made it hard. Glad I wasn't training for a full marathon. It was snowing again at the weekend.

Off to the dentist this morning to get my 4 implants fitted, at last. 4 months of wearing a denture has been too long. Just not looking forward to the mega invoice.

Just run my final long run before the Loch Leven Half Marathon in 2 weeks, so I ran..... a half marathon. Achieved my race target of sub 2 hours as well, by clocking 1:59:29. Don't really need to do the race now, only going for the t-shirt !

Well pleased with this run as it was one of those days when I had to force myself out of the door having just done a big clean of the hostel for 3 hours.

It does make you feel more confident for the race when you know you can achieve the distance and set a decent enough time.

Lots of families staying this weekend who are all taking part in the various runs at Balmoral Castle today. Everything from 10k to a 1.5km for the little kids. Just as they all left this morning it started snowing, but turned in to an ideal running day, cool and hardly any wind

2013 - 153 miles

10 mile walk today up 2 Munros (3000ft hills) Mayar and Dreish. It was a bright day and the views from the tops were outstanding. It was good to get out on the hills again now the snow has nearly all melted.

3:30 If you don't fancy B2B's choice of trail footwear I use Inov8s which are excellent. Good in wet and muddy conditions and very comfy. The model I use are Roclite 295 which are especially good on wet rock.
