I have a couple of answers to the discussion points.

1. The chip time you have is based on the "gun start time". This is to award medals to the first across the line and not necessarily the person with the fastest time.

The true time, i.e. based on when you crossed the wire at the start to when you crossed the wire at the finish, will be available later. If you started back from the front of the field, this time should be faster than that given on the day.

2. The course was measured by an official measurer at exactly 10k. Any device showing more than this could be based upon weaving in and out of other runners, starting behind the start line etc.

I hope these answers are helpful.

Kwaka congratulations on your PB.

James, well done - now keep up the exercise and we'll look forward to seeing you next year.

SlackDad I am realiably informed that the course was 10k almost to the metre. The winner finished in just about 30 minutes and had no complaints.

I will ask the chip people to comment on questions about timing reliability

thanks to all you runners joggers and festive participants for taking part in the YMCA Harriers race. It was a fantastic spectacle with lots of money raised for charities. The weather could have been a lot worse. I hope you enjoyed the event. Congratulations to you all and we hope to see you next year.

Kwaka

Course is pretty similar although I think we're trying to make it 2 laps rather than 3. It will be a good race....
