Hey JRJR, You here for work or play? I'm living back in Sydney these day, and happy to share my ignorance Done a couple of running races since I've been back, but not really up on the whole running scene. - City to Surf. IIRC it's officially the worlds biggest fun run and usually sells out pretty quick, lots of walkers/punters, so unless you book early and get into the seeded starts you're in for a stop/start first few miles. It is in Sydney at least. - Gold Coast Airport marathon d. 7 july. Did the 10k and half years ago, fairly flat/boring run along the highway, an hour's flight from Sydney to GC airport. *might* be doing this if we happen to be up that way seeing Mrs Kanga's family. Pretty big crowd I suspect these days. - Lawler Partners Hunter Valley Winery Marathon d. 21 july. Like the sound of this, 2+ hours drive north of Sydney and close to my folks, so more likely to happen. Also suspect I went to school with the race organiser a few eons ago. Will be a smaller 'local/country' race. - Westlink M7 Cities Marathon d. 28 july. Hadn't come across this one before, might have a crack at this if I don't do the Hunter Valley one. It's way out western Sydney though, bring a checked flannelette shirt, roll up the sleeves, shove a packet of Winnies Blues up your sleeve, and remove a few teeth to fit in with the local bogans. (there may have been some stereotyping involved there) It's point to point, on/along main roads, with a shuttle from the finish to start, but could be a logistical nightmare depending on where you're staying? We're lower north shore so it's probably a 1.5 hour drive from ours. Let me know what you end up doing. Cheers, Kanga |
