Well done everyone, a great day, amazing crowds and enjoyed running with everyone else...but...
A bit disappointed and my wife is perplexed as to how I can be after finishing in 3.52. (my first FLM) , but was cantering along until mile 16 at 8 min miles (1hr 45 half) until I pulled up with hamstring pull/cramps and had to be treated by St John's and was out of action for 10 mins. The last 10 miles were agony and had to stop with cramp three more times for massage.
I'm a 1 hour 35 half marathon runner and my training has gone really well, lots of intervals/speed sessions, long runs, etc. I've never had cramp/muscle problems before, and ate/prepared well...so I thought.
Don't wish to sound like I've got sour grapes or ungrateful for being able to take part - I know many can't or would have loved my ballot place - but do you know how I feel? Means I'll have to do it again to feel I've done myself justice...

Interesting.
I'm now getting extremely anxious since I've done some good training, 2 x 18, 1 x 20 and 1 x 22, but last Thursday I got struck down by my daughter's heavy chest cold and conjunctivitis. I tried gently running after 5 days and it brought out a really bad sore throat. Starting to feel a little better, but lacking energy. I'm on antibiotics now.
I guess I'm sort of looking for reassurance, or trying to reassure myself. I'm saying to myself that at least I've done the long runs and have over a week to make a full recovery, but I'm not getting better fast, and I can't help thinking it's going to seriously affect my performance on the day. Oh well, I guess that's what these threads are for. Frustrating isn't it...If I feel better by Sunday I might do a gentle 10 miler. |

| thanks Andy/George for the advice , joining a running club sounds like an idea to get the speed sessions plus motivation. |
