13.2m for my Garmin - spot-on bearing in mind the inevitably of not being able to stick exactly to the line with so many runners. Not as pretty or fast as previous courses as some have pointed out - but how else to handle 15,000 entries ?? A much better organised race. Cycling thru the town centre and down to the start at about 8:20 I was horrified to see 00s still arriving and parking in central Cardiff - clearly they'd left things far too late. Also amused to overhear moans about the 'heat'/sun, inclines ('hills' to some it seems - love to see the reaction if they trying running elsewhere in Wales?) and T-shirt/goody bag. My kids stopped expecting goody bags (at parties) when they were ~10. Better to cut the cost of entry and give any surplus to Barnados The organisers and those helping did a good job - but who'd be a race organiser these days? This is why I prefer smaller off-road events |

Leg 8 is tricky Apples - comparable with 11 (which is a mountain stage) in terms of elevation climbed and with no support (drinking/feeding of runners) allowed due to the nature of the course, other than the official water stations. I did it a few years back when it was rather hot and was grateful for the run-in (downhill). Best of luck to everyone doing this, and don't forget to checkout the website for details and news as referenced above. |

Here we go again ! The 29th running of the world's friendliest (and bumpiest) relay c/o Les Croupiers Running Club and others who support the race Congratulations to all teams who were lucky enough to gain a place in the 2011 race - commiserations to those that missed out. Keep an eye on the Castles Web site for details and news. Take a look at last year's RW thread here for a reminder of the 2010 race. tim |

Hi 40 mins - a sad story... They use to be provided by Air Products (who sponsored and took part in the race until 2009). I'll ask if we can do something about having at least a one mile marker next year... Feel free to post any feedback/views/ideas here everyone ! I can raise at the post Castles Committee Meeting Note also there are lots of pics on the Croups WCR web site for the 2010 race - see here |
