Having been rejected this year again I am trying to enter Prague and to get a discount I need my unique rejection code - any ideas where I can find this (it is not the code you are give when you apply to ballot!).
I ran my first half in 1984 in 1:37 and got that down to about 1:33. I changed jobs / started a family in 1988 and didn't run much during the 1990's. Joined a club in 2001 and got back into racing. Halfs were around about 1.48ish. New coach at club and I switched on mentally. This year 1.33 for half, 33min for 5 miles. Am now training for winter marathon and going for sub 3.30. Firstly I run a hard session once a week (intervals, tempo, hills etc). I also enter lots of short races. For example cross country in the winter and 5k and 5 milers in the summer. All are short, hard, but quick to recover from. I treat these as hard training sessions. I do however select certain ones where I set a goal such as a PB.I try a long weekend run 10 to 15 miles. I don't worry about the speed but put effort in on the hills. Secondly I don't wear a watch. I run how I feel. Wearing a watch forces me to run quicker than I want, or worries me that I am going too quick. Thirdly find a good pacemaker. Finally concentrate on style. Practice drills and lift legs higher. And believe in yourself.
