Having set off with a target of sub 4hrs things were going well. The predicted slow first mile wasn't going to put me off nor get me to play catch up early on in the race. Half way through and I was on pace for 3:50 and feeling strong. Then at mile 16 it all went horribly wrong! Passing through the Isle of Dogs towards the houses the crowds had thinned out to locals cheering everyone on. Then as we all approached a set of traffic lights and a pelican crossing a very elderly man with a crutch decided he'd cross the road and out he stepped into the oncoming flurry of runners (in all fairness the green man was flashing telling him it was safe to cross!), people were screaming at him but he was completely oblivious to it all, the woman in front of me went down, a few people tripped trying to avoid him and attempting to manoveure out the way I felt a sharp pain through my right leg and pulled up immediately. I ended up limping round the rest of the course for a time of 4:41 and utter devastation being completely inconsolable all the way home.
I've now spent the past few days looking for my next marathon to achieve that target time and not let all that hard work go to waste
Yup, I'm another fleece wearer! So disappointed at not getting in and looking for events to keep my fitness up. There'll be 3 of us entering this in a challenge we've all labelled as 'Tub Buster' in an attempt to start early and get trim for next years Summer hols!
Was really looking forward to this when I applied months ago. I had it down on my list of 'things to get me fit again' now it's almost here it's dawned on me I haven't done hardly any of that list and I'm going to pay for it on Sunday!
