Hello Paul, yes, always fun down in Portsmouth just before Xmas. That event does a great job of keeping everyone training to the end of the year. I was close to you actually. I reckon most 'other halves' of us amateur athletes are also our coaches. Good luck with the next few runs!
Many thanks for your advice Dan, that is preparation! I'll start studying the map, will take a compass, and will definitely wear trail shoes too.
Very kind of you to offer - will see how I'm feeling on the day. Hopefully, 400 runners (I think) will help everyone stay on the correct course.
In my first ultra race last year the leading seven runners, including me, were poring over a map at 11 miles. Four, including the two fastest, then ran the wrong way and added 4 miles to the route. Luckily, I was one of the three who chose the right path to the end.
Starting to think about this one, and getting my legs moving again after the festive feast. Can anyone describe the mix of surfaces, please? Is it mostly grass, mud, woodland trail and stoney paths? I guess the route will increasingly follow paths and roads as it gets closer to the finish. Thanks, and happy new year!
