ey up. having a discussion. I have east hull 20 mile race on Sunday. My plan is to run it at proposed marathon pace all thru with possible speed up in last couple of miles just to make sure I can maintain 6.30 pace for at least 20miles and see if I reckon I can then run a sub 40min 10k after on 6th april
Clubmate just said he doesn't see the point and I should just go for it and try to break 2HR. What your opinion on it?
MA I agree with Tmoth. Assess where you are just before but with it being your first one go out at 6:50 or just above and see how you feel. Worse case is at 20-22miles the wheels come off and you just make it under 3:05.00. I aimed for sub 3hr at blackpool marathon last year but cocked up by going off too hard. 6.14 & 6.24 first two miles. Didnt get sub 3hr so I jogged last few miles for 3:05.56 thinking it would be enough.
Anyway after an easy week I ran national xc at the weekend at planned mp. 46.22, 608th place beating a few people I had never beat before. Sunday was a long coached fartlek session . 15min at 7:30 followed by 5, 1, 2, 4, 1, 2, 5, 1, 2, 4, 1, 2mins @ at least 1mile pace with 5min 7:30pace between. Absolutely knackered even today.
Finally got around to entering east hull 20miles on 9th as my warm up race for blackpool marathon. That should give me a big indication of if im near the 2:50.00 shape
Im on cut back week with orders from my coach for relaxed pace runs shorter than what I have been doing. Hating every second of my runs. Ave 7:40s and just want to put my foot down and inject pace. Arghhhhh!!!!
Problem is I feel more drained after and managed to pick up a couple of niggles running easy. Could be the back end of the cough and Ive got the national xc championship Saturday so at least I get to put at least some effort in. Obviously I know I need the easy week with 5 weeks more hard training to go including east hull 20 mile race (crossed fingers for 2hr 10 or just under.) In 2weeks sunday but finding this week harder than the usual 2xtempo, speed endurance and long run sessions for last 6 week.
Tried the 7oz hagio's on this mornings 20miler. Order from coach was good pace for 10miles then start to pick up pace till doing marathon pace for last 2miles. First 5miles uphill into headwind not best start but settled on 7.05pace for next 5mile. Picked pace up from 10miles to 6:45 but at 15miles the cough caught up and I slowed my pace to 7min miles again. Over ambitious 1mile 1000ft climb at mile 16-17 followed by back into headwind again for last 3mile. Not ideal but still a good workout. The calves did get sore for last couple of miles but started run with stiff legs so not sure I can blame shoes. Still might need a new shoe purchase before blackpool tho. Oh well. Cut back week now and national xc Saturday
