for completeness, i'll stick in my time 4:10:26 - my first marathon. The way my legs feel, it ought to be my last. The wheels did fall off after 21 miles, so maybe there's another race in me to get that sub 4 hour marathon...... |

Big thanks to the gang at mile 17 - afraid I missed you entirely, despite trying to watch out for you. Like Yaffles a first timer's error! My problems began at mile 19/20 but just about held it together for a 4:10 finish. Nice day for running (not as hot as feared) and hopefully ok for the supporter crew too? Beat wishes. |

http://walking.about.com/od/marathontraining/f/marathonpain.htm see attached. I was really floating the idea about ibuprofen. The bottom line is that I haven't used it before a long run before, may not be a good time to start. I like the above article however, because it recognises the possible merits of a mid-race beer! Have a good race everyone - whether supporting or running, whether on vodka infused JB's or just the normal variety. |

... bit worried that vodka jelly babies may not stay the course if I consume them at mile 17 - chundering not being a good look! That said, I may be reduced to crawling round if it turns out to be 19/20 oC. On Peter's big kit list I didn't see Ibuprofen?! Just taken medical advice - I may pop tactical pre-race anti-inflammatories to prevent painful knees at 20+ miles..... |

Dear Group 10 Supporters Many apologies for providing my details so late - all work, run and no play makes Hugh a very dull boy. I'd just like to begin with a big thank you all for the military precision with which your preparations are being made. This is my first marathon and knowing there's a gang at mile 17 to "big up" the support as I no doubt flag, is great news. Forum Name: Johnersh Name: Hugh Number: 47799 Kit: a red Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) vest with sonic the hegehog front and back. Black shorts, with probably a white cap - I think it'll be sunny(!) Time: Based on my training, will hit 17 miles approx 2 hrs 30 - 2 hrs 40. My start is the red wave, so I guess I will probably be crossing the start line after everyone else (will try and make sure you tick me off your list as I go through) Needs: maybe a jelly baby or two, but otherwise just a cheer would be lovely Photo: on uk.virginmoneygiving.com/hughsbigmarathon Thank you all! With best wishes, Hugh |
