Hi Kelly, Depending on where you are, I'd suggest visting a specialist running store that offers gait analysis to suggest the trainers that might be best suited to you. There are plenty of them around and you'll be able to rely on the experitise of experienced staff that know the shoes - buying off the internet relys on a little bit of guesswork that could backfire later on.
I really sympathise with you...exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago. It also had my Garmin, mobile, running kit etc and I was absolutely gutted for ages. Scoured the area the next morning but didn't find anything. Later found out it had happened to other people at my running club in the same pub. Had to keep thinking that at the end of the day, its only possessions (no matter how valuable) that can be replaced. Tough lesson to learn but I am paranoid about leaving my bag closed and keeping it on me now.
I arrived in the UK from NZ exactly a year ago and recall the overwhelming admiration I felt witnessing the runners of the 2008 FLM achieve their dreams on April 13, for the first time. Running a marathon is something I've always dreamt of, but every time I build beyond a 10km base I succumb to injury and revert back to square one. In the last 2 years alone, I have suffered 3 stress fractures, a groin injury and a broken ankle.
I first started running 10 years to lose weight and have seen a marked shift in my running from someone who used to loved the thrill of the race to someone who now struggles to fight those persistent demons to reach the finish line. I've never broken any records but pushed to compete 3 halves and a handful of 10kms.
However, next year I reach a major milestone (turning 30) and it's now or never! Running the London marathon has always been in my top ten but now I am in the UK, I want to prove to myself I have what it takes (both physically and mentally) to go the distance. I want to reignite that competitive streak I had when I first started running and experience the thrill of 'the zone' again. Being selected as one of the six would provide me with the motivation, training & nutrition support and comaraderie to push beyond a half PB of 1:50.
