Hi Becki, Sorry to hear you've not been well. An over-active thyroid is quite common in females aged 25-40.
I was diagnosed hyperthyroidism (caused by Graves disease) in Febuary 2013. I was on tablets for 11 months and recently had iodine treatment as the tablets alone were not working. I ran a marathon in June 2013, but it was a struggle, and my aim was just to get round. In the weeks following the marathon I was very tired and lethargic, so regretted my stubborn decision to run it.
So my advice would echo what the previous posts have said - defer to next year. how about a half marathon this year instead? I think because you have had the virus and the recent diagnosis it is enough for your body to cope with for now. Enjoy the shorter training runs & build up to a marathon next year.
Good luck with your training. Please feel free to message me on here if you'd like any advice about running with Grave's. I'm pleased to report I recently ran a good half marathon, so with the correct treatment and a good endocrinologist you will be marathon fit soon
Hi all, what a lovely day. Great for getting out & about.
MM61 - well done!!! Excellent effort. Swim in the sea afterwards sounds brave...hope you enjoyed your well earnt fish & chips
NR - lovely walking that way. How is the swimming going?
Got my new racing flats in the mail today....going to try and easy jog in them either tonight or tomorrow. Went for a walk at lunchtime to the 360 cafe on the prom & back & walk round the park planned for later...don't usually do this until May!
NR - was a lovely day today. Bit breezy on the seafront, but so nice to see the sun & people out & about enjoying it.
MM61 - hope you had a safe journey and all the best for the Grizzly!
Done quite a bit of walking and a steady run this evening. Timed it to watch the sun setting over Loughor Estuary which was nice. Really busy weekend here - been up since 7am for an early appointment at the vets...pleasant surprise as they didnt charge me for the visit...not sure why??
Waiting for some new racing flats to arrive in the post any day now
Griff - how are you? SB - hope your training is going ok?
