| Hi Keith, you will have to remember the body glide for the nips! Shame about the weather, had a feeling all along it would be rough. Let's hope I'm proved wrong! Looking forward to it! |

Hi, I've entered this race as it it local and also my 3 rd and final marathon having run my 2nd three weeks ago at Loch Ness. I'm a plodder, but can run a half under 2 hours. However, my previous 2 marathons have been at the 5 hour mark. I a bit concerned as the field is only 200, I will get left behind!!! : 0 Anybody else running around the 5 hour mark??? |

I ran London 2010 for the first time and I was really pleased and felt proud to run it for charity having followed the event from 1981 on the television.
However, after talking up running less than 2 years ago and managing a PB of 1.55hrs for a half marathon I was disappointed to come in at 5hrs 5 minutes. As another member of the forum said, its like the Great North, dodging people and not getting into any rhythm, which I ran last year in 2hrs 1 min.
People where literally just stopping without any signals and I ran into the back of 3 or 4 people and then between miles 17 to 18 I ran into someone again who had stopped immediately in front of me and from then on I walked/ ran 4 miles, as I could not get any rhythm back and then managed to run the last 2 miles. Am i being to harsh on myself, or should I just accept that London, is a great day and a great fund raiser with an excellent atmosphere which it is?

Hi, This year was the first year, I ran the Great North, managing to gain an charity place through RT Children's Wish, having failed to get through the public ballot. I only started running in May '08 and my first half marathon was Norwich during the November of that year, going round in 2hrs 5 minutes. On the Great North I was determined to break the 2 hour mark. Having failed to do this, 2hrs 1 min, 38 sec, I realised hat the Great North is never going to be a runners PB. I look back now, great day, great atmosphere, tremondous support, but wish I had not put myself under so much pressure and enjoyed the race for what it is. Having said this, I will hopefully be there next year!! |
