just to explain a bit more......I'm doing the race for life and have followed the training plan they suggested. Its worked fine, until the weather got warmer at about the same time as the plan was suggesting longer runs of 20-30 minutes. I managed on Saturday to run for 30 minutes without stopping and achieved a distance of 3.5k. This was early in the morning before it got hot. Prior to that I'd managed 20 minutes, but I went for a run in a local park in the early evening and found it very hard to keep going because it was 25 degrees plus. My intention on Saturday is to run as far as I can and if I have to walk (which I expect to!) I will do so, because as good as the training plan has been, it is not going to get me fit enough to cope with all conditions. I can work on that side of it afterwards. I think, with this week scheduled to be a bit of a scorcher its going to be best if I can try to achieve 30 minute sessions and just see how I get on. Does that sound sensible? 6 weeks ago when I started the serious training I could run 4 minutes at a stretch, so I'm quite pleased with my progress and I'm looking forward to improving! Wish me luck |

I've been mixing it around - run 10 mintues walk 1 for 4 or run 20 minutes. Last nights run took me 50 minutes with a mixture of running for 10-15 minute stretches with 1-2 minutes in between. The training plan suggests I should be running up to 30 minutes, but I found it very difficult, mostly because of the heat. |

Hi Everyone, I've got my first 5k a week on Saturday. Last night I managed to walk/run 5k for the first time, mostly because I had no idea how it was going to feel. With a week to go and potentially 3 more training sessions, is it a good idea to have another bash at the full 5k or just walking and running sessions? Any advice will be appreciated |
