Man City fan here (from Manchester...) Going to do a 4 miler tonight and Thursday then relax! Completed the Liverpool marathon last year (my first one) although I had pretty much cracked my knee bone at 7 miles - a mixture of Nurofen and sponsorship got me round! Quite a slow time but I think I was allowed that! Cried like a baby at the end with a mixture of pain and happiness! Anyway Manchester now beckons - my knee (touch wood) is a lot better - my wife who is a physio said last year 'You can stop running and our knee will hurt or you can keep running and your knee will hurt' - fair enough! I will be honest and say i have not done as much training for this as I did last year but hopefully the sight of Old Trafford will give me a quick start as I try to run away from it! My problem in Liverpool was the 20 mile mark - I think I hit the wall and felt I did not eat properly during the actual run. I had a big bowl of porridge in the morning and a few gel packs during the race although I never feel much difference after them so may stop using them. Any suggestions from anyone about snacks to keep you going during the run? might try jelly babies this year? Enjoy the run everyone and I will be the blubbering baby at the finish line |
