Messed up my ITB in my left knee - seems to me manageable with care, but don't think I'll be in tip-top shape. Combine that with not running much in the weeks either side of my recent wedding I was pleased with a steady 1h34 for the Reigate Half at the weekend.
How is everyone else's training coming on? Booking my flights tonight - heading out on Friday, back Monday eve. Where in the city is best to be based? Centre or out towards the finish/beach?
Anyone entered yet? I’ll be lobbing the requisite €55 over in the next couple of days. On the entry form, any idea what the ‘Dorsal’ section is? It seems to be linked to emergency contact – should I put my better-half’s name here?
I had a 'mare of a race - despite spot on training and tapering my legs felt shot after only 5k...the remaining 37k were a bit of a chore. Finishing time was a full 30mins down on where I hoped/trained to finish - but the course/organisation was excellent. Bit of a squeeze to get into the stadium on time (maybe start outside and finish inside a.la Stockholm?), and the out and back along the Amstel was a bit dreary...although I'm sure my frame of mind during the run wasnt its best!
Can also recommened airbnb.com for accomodation - our apartment was stunning, only 20mins walk from the start near the Vondelpark - much better than nondescript hotel chains.
Hope everyone else did well and got what they wanted. Where next eh? Anyone done Copenhagen?
8mi knocked out over an extended lunch - tick! Couldn't really fit in a bunch of strides, so pushed the last couple of miles up towards 10k pace instead.
Thanks for the feedback on weight loss - I'm sure with a little rigour on my part the excess flab will drift off over the coming weeks...
15West - not done as much strength work as I'd like, need to get into the routine again. Got some TRX-style suspension training kit a couple of weeks ago - best get it out of the bag and put it to use...work on that core strength.
Been offline for a while – good to see this is an active board! Plenty to catch up on. Think I win the King of the Lard here…6’3’’ and 92kg (although my peak was about 122kg a few years back…gave up competitive swimming and retained the healthy appetite whilst developing a taste for real ale! Ouch!
I’m currently at the beginning of Week 4 of the 18/55 programme – target race is Amsterdam on 19 Oct. Aside from a short break at the end of last week, I’ve pretty much nailed each session – great feeling! Apart from tightness in the right ankle in the morning (92kg!!) all seems to be good physically. Need to make a concerted effort to drop the kgs now – too many post-run/work beers still!!
Extended lunch break today – 8m/strides in Battersea park.
