8mi knocked out over an extended lunch - tick! Couldn't really fit in a bunch of strides, so pushed the last couple of miles up towards 10k pace instead.
Thanks for the feedback on weight loss - I'm sure with a little rigour on my part the excess flab will drift off over the coming weeks...
15West - not done as much strength work as I'd like, need to get into the routine again. Got some TRX-style suspension training kit a couple of weeks ago - best get it out of the bag and put it to use...work on that core strength.
Been offline for a while – good to see this is an active board! Plenty to catch up on. Think I win the King of the Lard here…6’3’’ and 92kg (although my peak was about 122kg a few years back…gave up competitive swimming and retained the healthy appetite whilst developing a taste for real ale! Ouch!
I’m currently at the beginning of Week 4 of the 18/55 programme – target race is Amsterdam on 19 Oct. Aside from a short break at the end of last week, I’ve pretty much nailed each session – great feeling! Apart from tightness in the right ankle in the morning (92kg!!) all seems to be good physically. Need to make a concerted effort to drop the kgs now – too many post-run/work beers still!!

Wenturtle – I’ve never run the Amsterdam Mara before – heard really good things about it, and the idea of finishing in the stadium is great. Had a similar experience during my first marathon in Stockholm in 2010 (4h31)…amazing how you suddenly find a burst of energy when a few ‘000 people are clapping you in! Florence was a great experience too – love the city, and the chance to run past all the major sites was excellent. Course nice and flat – sparse on spectators in some places…a lot of euro races are! Dropped my PB from 3:38 to 3:24 – another reason to love it!
Mennania – Didn’t use a programme for Florence, just tried to be more consistent and injury free. A few longer midweek runs also seemed to help.
10 miles GA tonight after work – a nice route away from work and down through Brixton, Dulwich, Crystal Palace. Suffering a bit with a stomach bug so will be taking it steady…always seems to happen when I visit my 2.y.o. niece!
Just stumbled across this thread. Never used P&D before. I’m now 8 days into the 18/55 schedule with the goal being the Amsterdam marathon on 19 October. Today is a rest day apparently, although I do try and get on my bike when not running. My previous best Mara time was in Florence last November (3h24) – but would love to get near 3h15…
First 8 days of the P&D 18/55 schedule out of the way - no complaints so far! How is everyone else getting on? Any injuries/niggles to speak of? What races (if any) do you plan on doing during the build up? I've got a HM in Sept (Maidenhead) and possibly another one in late July (if I'm feeling up for it).
