I'm feeling naffed off about the race organisation - I trained hard for this and lost a large amount of time to the congestion / poor organisation. - I started where I should have been - but spent the first 8 miles weaving through the field past walkers, light joggers etc. - Within 50m of crossing the start line the congestion bouught us to a standstill for about 30 secs - Roads were way too narrow for the volume - I have to weave all over the road to get through the firld - Why did they not funnel us before the start and take longer to get people started and give us some space once we started. I wonder if it would have been different if I'd also ignored the start time slots and gone up the field. Really poor strategic planning and organisation - in the run up I kept hearing that they were aiming for record numbers, 15k mentioned - I suspect there is some greed here and lack of appreciation for making it a good event for runners. |
