Nelblade - looks like you ran a good race so I wouldn't be too upset.  You'll definitely be motivated to go sub 3 next time.

I'd never heard of 8lane before - doesn't sound like a pleasant place if to be if you do well!  Anyway, I'd better go and find some burberry running gear to complement my chav status.

To join in the humidity discussion - I'm not sure if it was really humid on Sunday morning, but it definitely felt 'weird' and I was sweating more than I expected to.

TT - hope you get your woes sorted soon!

Reefs - I'm 35 so I'm not too sure if there's going to be much more improvement!

CC2 - when I said be careful about upping milage gradually, I wasn't speaking from any real experience - I just reckon jumping from 30-40 miles per week to 70-80 miles per week over a few weeks could be asking for an injury.  Joining a club is probably the best decision you could ever make I reckon!

I noticed the biggest change in my fitness when I started running over 50 miles per week (when I jumped from 2:56 to 2:42 between Loch Ness 2005 and London 2006).  I read somewhere or someone told me that to run a good marathon you have to run at least twice the marathon distance per week so that's why I upped it.  My milage has creeped up steadily since then.

B&B - I've ran the Loch Ness Marathon a couple of times and broke 3 hrs and 2:40 for the first time there.  It's an easy course for starting too fast.  The first half is pretty undulating but with a lot more downs than ups so it's easy to get carried away.  There's a climb at ~17-18 miles that causes a few folk some problems.  Have a look at the elevation chart here.  The scenery is amazing.

MW61 - My first marathon was in 2004 and I ran 3:23 off about 40 miles a week and progressed to 3:00:32 (2005), 2:56 (2005), 2:42(2006), 2:39 (2006), 2:44 (2007), 2:39 (2008), 2:36 (2009) and 2:35 (2010).  To get under 2:45 I train about 65-85 miles per week and do plenty of 10-16M runs at marathon pace.  It's possible to improve by 35 mins but be careful ramping up the milage.

I promised myself that I'd have a whole week off after the VLM, but the promise is getting broken tonight.  My legs feel not too bad and I just want to get out and run, so I'm going to do ~3 easy miles.
