Thanks, am having the day off today instead of doing 8 miles (well I may go on the cross trainer) and will try the parkrun tomorrow and see how it goes. Next long run is only 13 miles on Monday so will see how it goes.
Hi I'm after a little help and advice. I'm running the Edinburgh marathon in May and am in my high mileage weeks before the taper on my training plan. Despite getting new shoes in January (2 pairs) at a running shop where they checked my gait etc I am really suffering with shin splints on my right leg and what I think is ITB on my left (pain around my knee) and my left hip flexor is really sore. I ran just over 18 miles Monday at 9:40 pace (am after a 4:30 marathon) but my shorter runs yesterday and today were hard, am finding I can hardly run up hills at all. My leg pains are usually gone after 2 miles (the ibuprofen may have something to do with it) and I usually have 2 days off before my long runs so they're usually fine. I've been following a first timer plan, am I just running too much for my legs to cope with or have I injured myself and am making it worse? I got a new half marathon pb 3 weeks ago but since then I have not hit my mileage targets (although I am getting my long runs in). Any advice gratefully received Thanks, Megan
