Mizuno Wave Elixir 5
Posted: 11/03/10
'lightweight shoe, with good support for overpronators'
Strengths:
lightweight with great stability
good for overpronators
have happily run half marathons in its predecessors
Weaknesses:
none that I can see
Overall:
I overpronate, and am about 8 stone. Many stability shoes have felt like bricks on my feet. I have enjoyed many injury free years in 4 pairs of the elixir 3, and am happy to find that any changes in this edition have not given me any probles ( although Ive only done my first 50k in them). The only real difference that I can feel is that they weight less I think than elixir 3, and are slighly less cushioned- but they ride the same.

'COMFORT AT LAST!!'
Strengths:
Great ride. Gives good stability whilst at the same time feels light, well cushioned and flexible
Weaknesses:
Slightly wide. If your feet are narrow, lace them tightly to keep stability
Overall:
I over-pronate, and have had endless achiles problems. I am also a light runner. I have tried orthosis in neutral and stability shoes. Whilst they correct my gait I have not been able to get any real distance done in them.( achiles good, blisers bad) These shoes have put the fun back into my running, straight from the box. I have always run in mizuno until now, but even though the alchemy is a lighter shoe it feels ridgid and heavy. Hopefully this will be the end of my achilies pain, and I can push on for next years FLM
