Mizuno Wave Rider 9
Posted: 11/03/06
'DISAPPOINTING'
Strengths:
Just like the old Wave Rider except ...
Weaknesses:
... seems to have a very tough outsole which makes for a very harsh ride.
Overall:
A midfoot-striking Wave Rider fan gets very despondent about new model and isn't likely to purchase Mizuno again.

Heel-striking afficiandos may however notice notice as much disparity between version 8 and version 9.

Weaknesses:
Er ... struggling here.
Overall:
Excellent training shoe and racing shoe for distances of 10 miles and over.

Feet in the Clouds: A Tale of Fell-Running and Obsession by Richard Askwith
Posted: 27/11/05
'WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT - IF IT HAD BEEN TRIMMED DOWN'
Strengths:
Gives a very good insight into the craziness of hurtling downhill on scree.
The author has a good narrative style.
Weaknesses:
Way too long and drags in places. Like teh Count, didn't manage to finish it.
Gets a bit repetitive and easy to lampoon as a series of anecdotes along the lines of: "Mad John McMad, of Madshire, holds the one-legged record for the Horseshoe Run, what a hard man."
Overall:
Good for harcore fell-runners. If you only have a passing interest, you'll start off enjoying it, gradually get bored, and finally put the damn thing down never to be picked up again.

'IF YOU'RE A MID-FOOT STRIKER, AVOID'
Strengths:
Light weight
Weaknesses:
Design of sole
Overall:
As a mid-foot striker, I didn't like this at all.

It felt OK in the shop, nice and bouncy. When I took them out on the road ... oh dear.

Made a hell of a lot of noise even at slow speeds ... "slap slap slap", and just wasn't very comfortable at all.

I have Mizuno Wave Rider now which is much better.
