Asics GT-2160
Posted: 22/02/11
'Restores the reputation of the 2100 series ... some big design changes though.'
Strengths:
Much improved cushioning over the 2150, returning pretty much to the standard that made the 2140 so good. Dual density foam in midsole hardly noticeable, however the shoe DOES feel very stable and has that "run all day" feel about it. Has more midfoot volume than previous models and therefore a different profile. This, coupled with the much deeper heel cup gives the shoe a different appearance.
Weaknesses:
Deep heel cup makes wearing low-cut socks difficult. Shoe is a bit inflexible, but does loosen up after a 100 miles or so.
Overall:
Not at all bad, though it has lost that streamlined look. Still a good improvement over the lack-lustre 2150, this could see the faithful returning.

Asics Gel Evolution

'NOT AS GOOD AS THE KOJI AND PRETTY UGLY TO BOOT'
Strengths:
Sole - the AHAR heel in particular - is damn near impossible to wear out. Midsole and heel-toe transition is very good for a shoe of this class.
Weaknesses:
Cushioning could be better, also this is a hellishly ugly shoe and Asics must know this. The fit is not as good as the Koji either and it feels cheap by comparison .... I'm writing this report very late in this shoe's life and can confirm that the Evolution II is a much better (and lighter) proposition.
Overall:
Although this shoe offers adequate support, the 55 weight red SPeVA is marginally on the dense side for lighter runners and this, like the Koji, is best suited to the bigger frame.

Aesthetics count in the end and this is a way ugly shoe. If anything impedes its sales, this single fact will be the one!
