Saucony Grizzly Approach
Posted: 15/11/10
'A cheap yet effective off road shoe that won't disapoint'
Strengths:
Price - when other shoes in my cupboard are the wrong side of £110, these shoes make a refreshing change. The grip is surprisingly good from the understated tread
Weaknesses:
These shoes won't last you for years - in fact for the last three years I bought a pair a year. Did about 350 to 400 miles a pair, and abused them terribly. Only moved to the Saucony grid trail because of over pronation problems
Overall:
Best value shoe I've ever owned

Asics Gel-Kayano 15

'High mileage shoe that looks after your (over pronating) feet very well ... at a price'
Strengths:
After 6 years of Asics Nimbus, a year of Plantar Faciitis and a trip to the foot specialist saw me move to the Kayano. This shoe (coupled with a little more off-road running) successfully saw me though my 13 month afliction, with a couple of PBs in there to boot. Very happy
Weaknesses:
The uppers on this model don't seem to have lasted that well. Not a huge issue, as the shoe still operates as expected, but just looks a bit tatty
Overall:
Quality at a price. You won't be sorry.

Asics Gel Kayano 16
Posted: 15/11/10
'Durable, comfortable, good performer'
Strengths:
A good version of the Kayano - after 300 miles still feels like new (unlike Kayano 15 that went a bit mushy on top after 2-300 miles). Very good fit. Quite heavy, but then that's not a problem for the high mileage (I have other shoes to race in)
Weaknesses:
Expensive, but then I find you get what you pay for!
Overall:
Worth the money as these shoes will last well over the recomended 500 miles if you treat them well (wear only whilst running, no mooching about etc..)

'NO SURPRISES - IT'S A NIMBUS'
Strengths:
"Run all day" comfort. 500 mile looks like new durability
Weaknesses:
For the first time since Nimbus V I find I have to lace to the top hole to stop movement, but not a problem now.
Overall:
Excellent shoe, as you would expect.

Strengths:
Pedigree, comfort, responsiveness, cool
Weaknesses:
Not as good as the VI

Asics Gel Nimbus VII

'STILL THE BEST, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE VI...'
Strengths:
Your legs will give out waaaaaay before your feet do in these shoes. Suitable for massive mileages
Weaknesses:
Upper stiffer than the VI and not so comfortable. The stretchy little toe pannel (taken from the VI) is not where my little toe is! It was on the VI.
Overall:
Still the best shoe.
