Asics Gel-Nimbus 12
Posted: 22/05/11
'Very different to the Nimbus' of old...'
Strengths:
The shoe is smart looking, comfortable on the foot and just walking around in them you can feel oodles of cushioning both front and rear.
Weaknesses:
The midsole doesn't appear to have the same springyness as older models, and the cushioning under the front of the foot is simply not up to the job.
Overall:
These are my third pair of Asics Nimbus shoes and when I bought them I was looking forward to smashing out plenty of miles in the comfort that this product line has left me accustomed to.

However I have since discovered over several runs that attempting any distance over about six miles becomes uncomfortable, over 10 miles becomes painful, around 11/12 miles my toes begin to go numb and over 13 miles I don't know as I had to stop and take off my trainers.

Yes walking barefoot was more comfortable; not to mention the resulting, and rather worrying, pain in my shins (new for me despite being accustomed to training in boots) :(

For any serious distance these are simply intolerable, however if you have some spare cash and don't mind splashing out a little I suspect they would make a decent short distance trainer or possibly a good gym shoe.
