More about me
I started trying to become a 'proper' runner in 2000 at the age of 43. To mark the Millennium I thought I'd have a go at the Flora London Marathon. Ran on a Golden Bond place for KGFS. Found out in January I had a place. Each distance I ran in work ups was the first time I'd ever run that far. Winchester 10K, then Portsmouth Half then Worthing 20 Miler - gruesome!
Disappointed with my time in 2000 ,so tried again in 2002 (Golden Bond from BLESMA) and got a better time. The day I got back to work, I had an email from the Washington Marine Corps Marathon to say I'd got through on their ballot so I ran my third Marathon there (for Parkinsons) and got round in a PB of 4:13. Ran the USMC again in October last year (for Combat Stress on a hot day) and old age and lack of preparation got me round (just!) in a less than inspiring 4:29.Still hankering after a sub-four before I quit for good...My wife reminds me that at the conclusion of the race I used the immortal words' I am NEVER doing that again.....' This year I'm taking part in a bike ride from Edinburgh to London. We made it ( 470 miles) ...and now I need a new bike !
