More about me
My Glory Year. 2010.
This is the year that in June I turned 70yrs. I started the year with big goals in mind. Namely, World age-group Records at 1500 and 5000 m''s on Track. I had been injured at the back end of 2009 and started training again in Nov 2009. I entered a road 5k race every month until the start of July, when the British Masters Championships were to be held in Cardiff. In one of the 5k races in May, I did a life-time personal best time of 21.50 mins, I was thrilled, it was a 14 sec pb. This achievement gave me confidence in obtaining my goals and dreams. At the British Masters Track and Field Championships, my dreams came true. On the Saturday, I broke the LV70 World Record for 1500 m''s by 8 seconds, my time was 6.02 mins. Then on Sunday I broke the World Record for 5000 m''s. My time 22.19 mins I had slaughtered the previous world record time by 32 seconds. What a relief. But a slight disisfaction about my 5000 m time! Then about 10 days later I ran another 5000m race, (this time not windy) and broke my own World Record by another 15 secs. this was also a small track pb. Making 45 sec in total knocked off the previous World Record time for this distance. I then went on to compete in the European Championships in Hungary, winning Gold Medals at the 1500 and 5000 m''s, I ran fairly slow times for me, the temperatures were around 32c--38c! However, I ran European Championship times for both races. The week I returned home was the last road 5k race that I needed to complete a Championship series (6 needed). I managed to race a UK Best Performance Time for this distance. Just as well, ''cause then I was injured, which prevented me from going for 3000 m World Record which was there for the taking by me. But my body had had enough for one year. So that my glory year over, but I am proud of what I have achieved.
