I just do this to keep the weight down. Every now and then a competetive streak kicks in which I can't comply to because I am built for comfort not speed.
On longer stuff I use a minidisc and sometimes the old ticker does a little mini fartlec of its own wheh I don't hear traffic on my heels. I have great sympathy for the deaf.
