In short: my favourite autumn race In full: This race is worth doing just for the view on top of okeford hill looking out over north Dorset. Seemed more entrants this year so prehaps word of mouth is spreading. Perfect conditions this year. Who needs the great south run? Will always want to do this race!
Ps if anyone found a black grey turquoise aldi running sock probably on the grass behind the church hall its mate is pining.... Date of review: October 28, 2015
In short: super tough rural trail marathon.....and food, dancing, camping and massive ice creams In full: I was inspired by Paula Radcliffe that it was finally time me to do a marathon after 12 years of trail races (5k-21 miles). Having read about this race in the 50 best races pullout - this is the one! The hills were bigger than I thought and it was warm, but I was doing well, thanks to the great drink stations and walking the hills, until at the top of the last big hill where they dreaded cramp started, managed to get running again until 300m (A nice view over sydling!) from the end where my legs said ENOUGH . Walking up to line another runner appeared rapidly closing on me causing me to do a chicken run over the line and then falling in a heap on the grass. Terminal cramp! A big thank you to the two guys who had just finished for getting my legs stretched and helping me up! All was fine after a massage much to the relief of the first aiders. Back to their village green after a shower and change for a massive ice cream and watching the rest of the field finish in the sunshine. Amazingly I still finished 41st!!
A fantastic post race chilli, real ale and local cider was enjoyed at the village hall followed by a barn dance until bedtime!
Have post marathon legs today and I'm almost thinking about doing it again next year
In short: still tough even after all these years In full: Nice to be able to leave a proper review now someone has untangled all their races. 10th terminator in 12 yrs so i have seen the race grow get longer and then shrink again. Still just as tough as there always seems to be mud in new places to catch you out . Even got a Easter egg as a spot prize! Date of review: February 22, 2015
In short: Old school cross country on a wonderful muddy new course In full: Loved the new course and was much muddier and tougher than the old wasing estate one. Everyone seemed to have had a good time although some had to extract lost shoes from the mud. Just used two bowls if water in the back sink to clean my trailfox shoes as they were too muddy to bring in the house! Can the organisers can find more mud for next year? Date of review: December 7, 2014
In short: This is the most wet, cold, muddy and nearly suffering from hypothermia despite wearing plenty of clothes since I did Tough Guy in January 2004 In full: fantastic food stations enabled me to get round in a reasonable time despite the awful conditions - most of the off road paths resembled small streams and some of the narrow uphill sections had such deep gullies they were unrunable! In summary extreme long distance MT racing and great training for the grizzly as well! Date of review: February 10, 2013
In short: nice run in the forest In full: enjoyed the mud at the start finish, all the gravel tracks did get a bit boring when we went under the A31 . just needs to add a mile of mud about half way round to turn it into a great 10 miler - no-one wants to run a 9 for some reason! (please don't turn it into a half-marathon) Date of review: November 11, 2012
In short: my favourite autumn race In full: the hills seem to get steeper every year! bit cold this year and a bit muddier than normal so times were slower but still enjoyed it. Who needs road races ! Date of review: November 11, 2012
In short: extreme xc ! In full: full marks to avr for deciding to let the race run in extreme conditions. had plenty of fun just getting to the race with flooded roads and a bit of snow too. change of date meant meant easy (+ now free) parking. the start of the race lulled us with a few puddles until we hit the fields - mud and deep water galore! running uphill against a river was especially invigorating and fun! In short: testing mostly off road trail race In full: ground too hard for me - needs to be run later in the year when its softer going. can we have some vege burgers too ! Date of review: September 28, 2012
