In short: The Best Got Better In full: As ever, Stockport Harriers lay on the best organised, most friendly, race of the year.
Every year, this gets better, every year they listen to feedback and improve upon the past. Not sure I can suggest anything to improve upon this fantastic race, other than not increasing the numbers anymore. It is perfect as it is.
In short: Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. In full: Snowdon doesn't just tick all the boxes, it gets out its crayons and book, draws a load of new boxes and ticks those too. Everything from the faultless registration, to the freebie t-shirt and wonderful slate finisher's coaster to the lovely hoody I bought helped to make this race so special, and that's before I get onto the run itself. The humour and camaraderie between the runners, knowing that you are setting off on reportedly the UK's toughest marathon sets the scene for the most beautiful sights I've ever run through. However, when they say its tough, good grief, they are not lying, it was ball boucingly hard. The gain from mile 22-25 255 metres (that's not including the other two monsters during the race). Even though it my slowest time by far, this is by some distance, the best marathon I've ever done. It is no wonder its been twice voted the UK's best marathon.
In short: Baggage a big prob but lets not let it spoil a great race In full: Let's deal with obvious first. Baggage was a massive cock up, but they have acknowledged it, apologised and promised it'll be sorted for next year. Yes, it could have rained, yes it could have been freezing and we could have had a Manc Mara on our hands. But it didn't and we didn't. This is the third time I've run this course and this has never happened before. Let's see what happens next year.
Park and ride is back after a couple of years off, which was excellent. The support along the course was great and the water stations very well managed. Its a beautiful run, much prefer it to Wilmslow and a definite PB due to the massive downhill towards the end.
In short: What a great run, loads of fun and a lot of money raised for charity. In full: Love this race, brilliantly organised by Tony Ward. Great idea to run it without any watches giving everyone a chance to win by getting nearest your predicted time.
Agree with the chap that said try to make the finish a bit more obvious but not sure you can do that on the canal. But who cares ? Great fun, and look forward to next year.
Could it be possible to organise a similar one in the summer ? Date of review: December 29, 2013
In short: Not the best 10 miler in the UK, the best 10 miler in the world ! In full: Yet again the brilliant Stockport Harriers pull it off, fabulous race, great weather, enthusiastic marshals and changes to the course only improve it.
Marathon Talk's (http://www.marathontalk.com/) Tony's Trials Audenshawe perfect as ever as the stadium announcer.
Really nice long sleeve tech t shirt and the best goody bag keeps on giving.
In short: Best Half of the Year bar None In full: Best race of the year, once again perfect weather. Tough as old boots as ever, The Orme and the sand make it a slog, but will book again next year for our annual pre Chrimbo pilgrimage to the Motherland
In short: If you are running your 1st marathon do Chester, if you are running your 1st half do Chester In full: I am not surprised in any way at all by how fantastic the half was today. Superbly organised, effortlessly smooth, and even the people asking the runners to make room at the end of the race did it extremely politely and very effectively. Top class, this is exactly how a race should be run. Date of review: May 12, 2013
In short: Great race, incredible marshals In full: As ever, brilliantly organised race, especially this year in the freezing conditions. Marshals were outstanding. Thank you guys, used this as training run to London marathon, nice to finish a half not dead on my feet. Odd choice of t shirt but overall, top race as ever. Be interesting to see how many runners cried off Date of review: March 24, 2013
In short: Outstanding In full: What a fantastic race. From the seconds it took them to find and hand over the numbers, the chip timings, the numerous stewards, the free sarnies and tech t-shirt to the instant 1st aid when my friend cramped up on the finish line. Great race, thank you Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: Best Race of The Year In full: Love, love, love this race. 3rd time of doing it todat and it never fails to impress. From the torch bearing firing a rocket to start the race, to Benny Hill accompanying us as we ran round the track, to the incredibly enthusiastic marshalls, to the hills, wonderful tech t shirt and the, again, bizarre goody bag (Who else would include a sticker with Stockport 10, Rubbish but Brilliant)
Put simply, Stockport Harriers are a fantastic club and put on the best, friendliest and most fun race on the year. 11/10, see you next year Date of review: December 9, 2012
