In short: Saw lots of Hogweeds, yes it was a half marathon & boy was it hilly! In full: A big thanks to everyone who helped putting on this event - TOP class event. The scenery was so nice it took your thoughts away from the hills & that is saying something. Great event & roll on next year. Date of review: March 27, 2009
In short: What a gem ! In full: One of the best events I`ve attended - I`ll be back for more. Great organisation, wonderful marshals, superb support from the local crowds. Interesting course - good mixture of scenery & undualations. I liked the later start but each to their own on that one. Very nice medal but not too sure on the goodie bag. Loads of freebies afterwards thou. Bottom line - great event & great day. Thanks to all involved. Date of review: March 19, 2009
In short: What a cracker In full: A big thankyou to all those who helped put on this truly fantastic event. From the moment I pulled up to the car park I knew it was going to be a cracker & I was not wrong. The `parting of the runners` to let Mick & Phil through is just one of fondest memories I treasure for a long time along with so many others. What can I say about the marshals, bag handlers, water stations helpers, spectators & all of the other runners & MicknPhil which has not already been said by others - but thankyou. This event puts a great many races to shame. Simply a wonderful event. Great venue too. Date of review: March 12, 2009
In short: A missed chance - could have been so much better In full: I don`t like being negative on any event as there are a great numbers of poeple behind the scenes who have spent a great deal of time organising their event so we can just turn up run.
As someone who attends a great number of races this one didn`t work for me. I was hoping it was just me but judging by the other comments it sadly wasn`t.
I do think this was a missed opportunity by the organisors as everyone loves to run at Dorney Lake - it`s such a great place for a PB.
If I can mention a few pointers for March`s race day;
1. Distance Markers - everyone from the faster runners to the slower runners like to know how far they have run / got left to go. (I too made it just over 10.5km)
2. Marshalls - us runners are a strange lot - we do need encouragement every now & again.
3. Communications - If things don`t go to plan for whatever reason, please pass that on. I guess people waiting in their cars didn`t really know what was happening.
4. Safety - I nearly got `doored` by someone getting out of their car whilst passing the parked cars for the 1st time. Please put marshalls in key areas.
I hope the 1st time runners at Dorney Lake have not been put off by this race - I know I`ll be back at Dorney Lake this year....around June time would be nice. Date of review: February 17, 2009
In short: Another cracker from Mike & his team. In full: So far I`ve run three 2.09 events races & this is another cracker. Nice planned route. Even having wet feet just before the 1st mile marker didn`t damper this race. Mind you water & mud everywhere does normally mean you have just ran a 2.09 event :) Well done - can`t wait till the next one. Date of review: January 31, 2009
In short: One not for the PB hunter but what a good course. In full: OMG - I would best describe the course as "V" shaped - the 2nd half of the race was a full 5 minutes slower than the 1st 5k! Good job I wanted to practice my hill work! Nice to get out in the countryside. Thanks & well done to all the organisers, marshalls & helpers...and the others runners. Great race. In short: I was a little bit cold to start off with but wasn`t at the end!! In full: What a way to start the year. 1st time there so didn`t know the course - uphill in places, down hill in some, flat in others. Surfaces - road (mostly traffic free) with some trail - all x 2 of course inc the jelly babies. Good start to the year. Nice marker. Many thanks to the orgainsers & esp the smilling marshalls who were out in the cold helping us round....and the other runners. Date of review: January 7, 2009
In short: Tough but excellent post Crimbo race In full: An excellent post Crimbo race. Set in very Grounds. Looking back I see that the course notes failed to mention the `steps` - I thought there were 90 or so but I see that there were 173 of them (x 2) - great feature !!!! Special mention goes out to the organisors & helpers around the course & in the Car Park - thanks. See you next year. Date of review: December 30, 2008
In short: As the name suggests it`s not flat In full: 1st time at the Hog`s back 8. A gently start before tackling the hills! Nice winter views at the top & the way down..if the fog & mist lifted :) Would have liked to see some distance markers & do not park here signs towards the finish. Didn`t mind the walk back. Good race - well done to the organisers & special mention to the marshals & `baggage` ladies. Thanks Date of review: December 21, 2008
In short: Excellent weekly event - well done to the organisers In full: Great weekly event - very professional. Good numbers of runners with mixed standards which is great. I will become a regular supporter here. Did I mention it was free? Date of review: December 15, 2008
