In short: Uphill but never down?
In full: No killer hills but we seemed to be going up slight gradients all the way until the last mile. Liked the fruit and ice cream, better than another medal or T-shirt. A very good race, little traffic and a good road surface.

In short: Challenging but fun
In full: Very muddy and slippery, even with fell shoes on. Pretty tricky descent since it was pretty dark under the trees. A towel instead of another T-shirt was useful. Wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the barbecue. Pretty tough race with loads of encouraging marshalls and direction signs and despite the earlier rain, turned out to be a fine evening.

In short: Flat and fast
In full: Good fast course although a bit uneven in places. I did hear that some people went off course although I don't see how with plenty of marshalls.

In short: Good, well organised race
In full: Runners called forward in 10 minute timebands so nobody should have started ahead of their abilities. Pretty flat and fast course except for the steps and steep path just after half way. Plentiful direction signs and marshalls. Canal towpath dry and firm in the hot weather although possibly treacherous in places if wet. One improvement would be the race numbers, mine dissolved within a couple of miles but otherwise a pleasant Saturday morning run.

In short: Brilliant but tough
In full: Not so much a trail race as an entry level fell race! Big climb and because it was congested, no chance of going off too fast. Fairly technical descent with rutted tracks, mud and stiles but soon became tarmac. Nice and flat past the reservoir and a fast finish if you avoided the mud and tree roots. Great value for money and a spectacular place to run.

In short: Well worth the journey.
In full: Difficult because of the wind but a potentially fast course on a better day. Great value with a medal, T-shirt and goody bag that was more than a bunch of leaflets. Only drawback was the lack of hot water in the showers. Well worth trying again and hoping for a better day.

In short: One of the best of its kind
In full: Could be a fairly ordinary trail race if it weren't for the obstacles that make it special, especially with marshalls and runners helping people to get round. Goodie bag a bit mean but probably the best T-shirt ever. The only reason for not doing it again is that there are plenty of other events that I haven't done yet. It is a bit pricey but this sort of event usually is with the cost of building the obstacles. A big thank you to everyone involved, including the masseuses at the end and the people who gave me a lift back to the station. Even the trains were on time so a great day out.

In short: Postponed due to snow
In full: It's hard to give a fair review because snow caused a postponement. Although e-mails were sent the day before, some of us who travelled a long way didn't receive them and neither did some of the locals. The organiser arrived to say that on Satruday, the back roads were full of snow and he didn't think that he could have safely delivered the marsals around the course. However, the course markers had been put out and the 20 or so who had arrived went for a social jog around the course. Ironically the waether was perfect, warmer, dry and the lying snow soft and crunchy underfoot although if the race had gone ahead with a full field, the ground would probably have been very churned up. In some ways a disappointing day but met some great people and had an enjoyable run. Certainly looks worth doing properly.

In short: A good way to start
In full: My first race for over a year. I chose it deliberately since it wasn't too long or hard. I train around the area frequently so I knew what to expect. A good one for any body doing their first race. More on tarmac than I expected but not too muddy off-road. Good showers afterwards too.

In short: Tough but fun
In full: What started as a trail race became a fell race up on the moors above Bury. With only 2km to go, it turned into a mud fest. A very challenging event but great fun. The entry fee is steep, especially with no T-shirt or medal.
Shortage of portaloos meant that some peole were still queueing when we were called to the start.
At least there was somewhere to get changed afterwards, even if there was a lack of privacy which may have concerned some people.
Great coffee was very welcome.

I would probably not do it again but only because there are plenty of other events to do.
