In short: A very challenging run through a beautiful area of the Quantocks In full: If it wasn't so up/down, left/right, long grass, muddy and generally lung burstingly hard then I would have revelled in the remoteness of a run through a beautiful piece of countryside. HQ at a lovely National Trust site. Good car parking attendant support in an area with limited opportunities. Marshalling throughout the course was encouraging. NT tea and cakes very tasty. Well done for an excellent event put on by a small club. Date of review: July 16, 2008
In short: If you knew about this race you'd run it... In full: ...not for the faint hearted. 9 miles (with 1450ft elevation). This year was made even more challenging following the freak floods experienced 2 days before making Crewkerne national news - mud, debris and a foot deep mud filled 20 metre ford at 7 miles.
Many thanks to the marshalls and abundant water stations round the route.
One improvement could be a cake stall at the finish - I'd rather give my money to a local charity than Somerfields! Date of review: June 8, 2008
In short: Excellent multi race event for the whole family In full: From the hard Excellent 8 multi terrain to the 1 mile fun run - the bacon rolls pre -race and choice of memento at the end - fantastic race of great value for the whole family run with great thought, understanding and passion. Well done Date of review: November 3, 2007
In short: Fine marshalling in the rain but the start...! In full: The rain really spoilt a day that was made for the sun - samba bands and smiling marshals despite the relentless rain. Nice touch that the 2 races interwined (twice)and pulled us 10 milers on. But the start was a disaster , no body n knew where it was, who the offical was 2 guys on different mikes , whilst at the end I marshalled in runners round musicians cars let in to set up but blocking the final run in - could do better. Relentless stiffly undulating course made you think. Date of review: July 15, 2007
In short: Bolting horses beware!!! In full: Due to the continued success of such a "well run" race and challenging course the organisers plan not to take entries on the day next year - so make it an early booking for 2007....it is well worth it. Date of review: February 5, 2006
In short: muddy with 6 hills and 2 scrambles In full: With the weeks rain came mud - great for an off-road race but the last 2 climbs were too slippery to run up, or was that something to do with the pain and fatigue??? Date of review: December 5, 2005
