In short: Very tough going up, easy coming down! In full: Having read the 2004 revues, I can now confirm that they are pretty accurate. This is a pretty tough 7 miler, uphill for most of the first 4+ miles, downhill the rest. Great scenery and a nice big Christmas Pud at the end. If you want to do something a little more challenging than a Great Run 10K, then try this one!. Date of review: December 11, 2005

In short: Excellent organisation, great atmoshere, the best Great Run for me! In full: I decided to run all of the BUPA great runs and this is my 4th event. It was definitely the best, begin enough for a really good atmosphere but not too big (like the GNR), very flat and fast. The wave start worked perfectly and there was hardly a walker in the first wave (thanks guys!). All in all a great 10 miler, thoroughly recommended to experienced and beginners Date of review: October 16, 2005

In short: 2 laps with hill climb make it a little tough going In full: Nice friendly atmosphere, not too crowded, good organisation, plenty of marshalls. Found the hill climb into town tough going on both laps, but got round with enough left to manage a little sprint at the end. Definitely not a pb course, but recommended to those who like a little bit of a challenge Date of review: July 13, 2005

2005 Blackpool Fylde Coast Marathon

In short: Should at least get the basics right, enough water stations with adequates supplies! In full: The organisers need to think again, inadequate water stations and amateur support are not a great recommendation for this marathon. It was very tough on the day due to the dealys, but mostly due to the heat. With a serious rethink and more resources it has the potential to be a really excellent race venue. However, no planning would have considered the outside possibility of the sun actually shining in Blackpool and possibly the hottest weekend of the year! I was seriouly dehydrated at 16-17 miles, not plaesant, but got through it to finish 20 minutes behind my target. Some nice touches, but try harder next time me thinks! Date of review: June 20, 2005

In short: Great event, worth coming back for. In full: Great event, even bigger than last year, but still fwelt good. I can't really fault it. Easy to get to, great organisation, good weather for running and a great atmosphere with a good buzz. 20,000 is probably about the maximum though, I can see some problems if it gets any bigger. All in all a highly recommended event. In short: It's not a race it's a charity event that involves some running (for some of us anyway!) In full: This was my first GNR and initially I found it very frustrating, it was impossible to run, too many people too crowded, some individuals a walking roadblock within 1 mile of the start! I have changed my mind since, because the experience overall is fantastic, memorable, but it isn't a run, it's much more a charity event that invloves running. When I say running, that means some people try to run, many don't. They get right near the fron and act as a rolling roadblock. thinks it's impossible to anything like a pb in this event. just Date of review: October 21, 2004
