In short: I found it tough - and I missed all the scenery! In full: Spent too much time thinking about the ups and downs that I forgot to enjoy the race! My own lack of preparation meant I found it tougher than I would have liked. It was a long way from home (combined trip to visit relatives!) so don't think I will be making the effort again. In short: On the coldest day of the year, go here to see the nutters! In full: There was snow! It was beautiful! But flamin' freezing!!! I momentarily thought the High5 drink was boiling hot as I saw steam coming from people drinking it but that was the chill of thei breath!
A bit tricky to find the event, but wonderful support all the way round. Enough down hill to pick your speed up throughout the race and by comparison it didn't feel like there was all that much up-hill!
I did only do the half mind. Plus, half-ers don't get medals, they are just for the certified mad people! Date of review: December 14, 2004
In short: Just the thing to set you up for Christmas! In full: Very popular race so get your place booked early! Great t-shirts too! Running on sand was a new challenge for me and going for a time was tough, but so much fun when you are chasing a santa or a christmas pudding to the finish line!!! Date of review: December 13, 2004
In short: Got well below the time I was hoping for but could have been better organised In full: It was the hottest day in a very long time so I certainly wasn't expecting my 53mins! But the roads were closed off late, the race was delayed because of on the line entries, there was only one water station that wasn't very well manned, and at the end they wanted your chip but didn't want you to stop moving, and it wasn't clear where there was water or goody bag collection points. And we missed the award ceremony as that wasn't clearly pointed out either.
Still, I was pleased as punch with my time so that makes it all ok. Date of review: September 5, 2004
In short: Killer as my first 10k but I am going to do it again! In full: It was I think the hottest day of the year so far so difficult anyway. As a road runner, I found this challenging - but those in the know reckon this is a tame multi-terrain course! There are a couple of evil steep bits, but the marshals were fantastic - a real reflection on the friendliness of Totnes itself. Markers weren't great (promoted as a 10k race, markers were in miles, and even then I didn't see 6 marker points) and though I am sure the scenery was beautiful, I was more concerned about where my feet were going to admire it!
I can't wait to do this again - perhaps it has a special place in my heart as it was my first 10k but it seemed very well organised and thoroughly recommend it. Date of review: August 31, 2004
