In short: A fun race with nice scenery In full: This is the second year I have run this race. Last year the reports of hills meant that I went a bit slower than normal - but there are only really two, and one is at the very end. Its could be a PB course but there are quicker out there. What it is though is a very enjoyable run, with good organisation, facilities and car parking. What else do you need in a race?! Date of review: February 7, 2007
In short: Great hill! In full: A fun race. I reckon it takes two miles to recover from the big hill at the beginning. Tee shirt will be useful in the dark, or if theres a powercut over Christmas! See you next year Date of review: December 19, 2006
In short: Fantastic In full: Alongside the Dartmoor Discovery this has to be my favourite race of 2006 - and I completed the FLM this year too. The start and finish in the stadium was ideal - no timing chips but they weren't needed. Great course - PB almost certain, well I got one! :-) Good t-shirt - great idea having the names on the back of all entrants Top notch atmosphere - I think it affected everyone, as I never been in such a happy race. The marshals were excellent, although to be fair they have been at every race I have been at. Downsides? I would have liked Lucozade at say miles 12 and 16, but I could have had my own there, some car drivers were ignorant, but thats hardly the races fault. Well done Abingdon! In short: Too many runners, need a grading system In full: I spent the whole race overtaking people, right up to the end. The first 4 miles were 9/10 mm because of the congestion; even at mile 3 I was overtaking walkers. If I had started nearer the front I may have enjoyed the race more, but I got very frustrated overtaking people. Luckily this was a pre Abingdon fast run - if I had trained for a pb half I would be very cross. I doubt I would do it again, unless the numbers are halved or they do a London Marathon type grading, so you run with people at your pace.
In short: Hilly, with stunning views In full: Couldn't be much more different from the FLM a few weeks before. Very hilly with spectacular moorland views. Sparse supporters, but they made up for it with enthusiasm! Very very hard, but worth the effort!
In short: a run of two halves, both equally good In full: This is a great training run for upcoming marathons. I am concentrating on starting fairly slowly and speeding up, with the first 6 miles being undulating thi was just what the doctor ordered. A fast second half to the race is a great confidence boost. And I got a pb! Second year and just as good. Will be back next year. Date of review: March 7, 2006
