In short: Great race, as always. Please make chips easier next year. In full: Done this now for 3 consecutive years and it was very good again. Helped by nice weather. My only comment would be to change the chips; they were very fiddly. Otherwise, good stuff. Date of review: November 17, 2008

In short: There was generally excellent organisation despite previous reviewer's commentss In full: I agree with previous reviewer's comments re sea front. However, that said we got tremendous support from the people there. The lack of seafront mileage markers aside this event was organised excellently - smooth start, very friendly marshalls and drinks stations about every 2 - 3 miles for marathon runners, which was needed in the warmth today. Was it me or did this affect others' times? The route was flat but a little monotone. Overall well done - I can see this festival of running increasing in popularity, especially if it avoids clashing with the Robin Hood equivalent. Date of review: September 14, 2008

In short: I don't think Great Run have got this one quite right yet In full: Good atmosphere. Not an inspiring route and no, I'm not a United fan! Would have preferred a level finish. Waves not arranged effectively. There were a lot of slower runners in the orange wave, which was frustrating for quicker racers. I preferred last year's route. Date of review: September 7, 2008

In short: Very tough after overnight rain. Well worth a go, though. In full: Very efficient - thanks to Belper Rugby and its marshalls. It would be good if a 5th water station could be added, after the one at 22km. Jellies and fudge made nice touches at the stations. Nice to have a beer on the rugby club decking when finished. This race is well worth doing but, be warned, it is tough. The overnight rain made some stretches stickier than they might otherwise have been. Date of review: August 17, 2008

In short: Good race, good friendly atmosphere. Must sort out toilet facilities In full: Fairly average in terms of toughness. Three modest hills are not bad but make it not generally a pb course. Mostly scenic. A good event to do at this time of year. If better toilet facilities could be sorted I would highly recommend this race. Date of review: November 25, 2006

In short: Good scenery. Well marshalled. Recommended In full: Overall an enjoyable event. First 7k are uphill but fairly gradual - nothing to match 'Spire 10' hills! Most of the race is through open countryside. Good atmosphere and well organised. I will come back. Date of review: September 10, 2006

2006 Chesterfield Spire 10

In short: DON'T MAKE THIS YOUR FIRST 10 MILER. IT'S TOUGH! In full: Did this for the second time today (last time was 2 years ago) and forgot how tough the first 5 miles are. The first two miles are steadily uphill, but do not prepare you for the 2-3 mile section, which is like running up Win Hill (the locals will know this). Miles 5-9 are recovery time, but if you've left little for the finish the last mile is also a struggle. Notwithstanding this, it's a well organised race, has fine scenery and an atmosphere to match. Worth doing - but not as a first 10 miler!! Date of review: September 3, 2006

In short: Very good overall. Superb organisation. Good atmosphere. Opportunity for PB. In full: This is a very good race, with superb organisation. It's a town race so scenery is not pleasant, but it's motivating passing runners coming back from the turnaround point. It is definitely PB potential. One plea though. My wife paid £15 to enter and could only have a medium shirt. Please get small shirts for women, particularly when they are asked for this amount. Date of review: February 6, 2006
