In short: Fast course, great finish, well organised, excellent marshalling In full: This course is as flat as they get short of running round a track for 26.2 miles - when the only comments on surprising inclines refer to the one coming out from under the subway, you know it's flat! As such, it has excellent PB potential - look on the thread for the evidence. Marshalling was top notch - no danger of getting lost or being run over. Was a bit less scenic in parts than I thought it would be, but through the villages and the tracks made for a good varied course. Only minor quibble was the proximity of the car park, but it really is a very minor one. Overall, spot on. Date of review: October 21, 2008
In short: I'll leave it to Tina Turner to describe this race! In full: Simply the best, better than all the rest!
Wonderful route through the woods, amazing scenery (the poppies were a real wow factor), great organisation and outstanding marshalling.
Everything ran like clockwork and there were some excellent touches - jelly babies and sponges at the water stations, marking the tree routes, cakes at the end and so on and so on.
The vast majority of the route was amazing and because it went from fields to woods to a bit on the road to woods etc you were constantly wondering what was coming next. the only unpleasant part was the stretch alongside the main road but as you knew you were nearing the finish it wasn't all that bad.
I didn't actually find it as tough as the pre-race build up would have suggested but that just meant I could enjoy it all the more.
Many thanks to everyone involved in running this race. Date of review: June 16, 2008
In short: Fantastically well organised and excellently marshalled In full: Very picturesque run - the undulating course wouldn't have been so much of a problem if it hadn't been for the heat!
Organisation was impeccable, the marshalls encouraging (as were the spectators), the sponges were much needed and everything seemed to go like clockwork. Great to have the shakes at the end. The only reason for me putting a "maybe" against doing it again is that I live 2 hours away so it meant an early start and an uncomfortable drive back home. Date of review: May 11, 2008
In short: A couple of hiccups, but overall a really pleasant run. Marshalling was excellenttt In full: Agree with previous reviewer that the distance was a bit short but I'll gross up the distance to the full amount and still take the PB!! Was a bit chaotic at the start with participants hanging around waiting for the starter to arrive, but once the race got going it was excellent. Surface was easy to run on and the loop through the wetlands was really relaxing. The marshalling was perfect - no danger of getting lost despite being a trail run. Last 5 miles were tough, but that's the nature of a marathon, rather than this specific course. Really good effort for a first time and would strongly recommend it to people both for the nature of the run and its PB potential Date of review: November 10, 2007
In short: Tough but well worth doing although you have to be a bit masochistic to do it. Well organised with great marshalling all the way around. A real spirit of encouragement from all the runners. In full: Thoroughly enjoyed it - well laid out course and great goody bag at the end - decent quality T-shirt and paperweight. Very grateful for the chunks of Mars Bars on the way round. Apologies to Dr Rob for the names I called you when I finished - it was only in jest!! Date of review: June 23, 2007
In short: A tough run up and down the South Downs. Your legs will hurt on the way up and the way down In full: Well organised but there were a couple of points where a signpost would have been helpful, not least of all at the bottom of the hill before the river crossing.
Good idea to have post massages available.
Big thumbs up to the mayor! Date of review: May 7, 2007
In short: Very tough in places but the finish made it all worth while In full: Nothing could have prepared me for the final climb - first time I've been reduced to walking in a race. Bloody tough, but it didn't claim to be anything different! Fantastic organisation and marshalling. Date of review: January 1, 2007
In short: Very enjoyable for a first ever 10K - more water at the end next time please! In full: Well organised race, friendly marshalls. Only downer was there wasn't any water left at the end for the runners as the kids seemed to have taken it all!! Date of review: May 1, 2006
In short: Well organised undulating run through the Surrey countryside In full: Enjoyed it as my first 20+ race - well organised, friendly atmosphere and good route. Toilet facilities at the start could have been better. Don't know whether it was me, but I only found out once I'd got home that tea and cakes were available after the race - I had to make do with a trip to Sainsburys Date of review: March 27, 2006
