In short: tough fun In full: Great run this. After driving down 100 miles from oop North last year and realising I wouldn't make the start 15 minutes away when I was still in Matlock, I arrived in plenty of time this year and it was well worth it. I think it ranks with the Lakeland trail races. Just as hard, and slippier underfoot. The organisation was 1st rate and everyone was made welcome. Plenty of styles adds to the fun. Apologies to the guy below if I took all the hot water. Thanks Belper. Date of review: August 18, 2008

In short: i'm sore In full: As I sit and write in bed, 8 hours after 3 times the longest duration run I've ever done, I have to say that this was brilliant. The organisation was superb. The enthusiasm, cheery smiles, encouragement and helpfulness of all who contributed, knew no bounds. Thanks to all. Thanks also to Brita from Ambleside AC, without whom I would still be on the fells, lost, lonely, and vulnerable. Thanks too to Stuart, for conversation during, and wine after. This was a great event, which deserves to go from strength to strength. It's very tough, as you'd imagine, made harder by inclement weather, which somewhat spoiled the views. I write "maybe" for doing it again, possibly because my legs are killing me. I guess I'd put a "yes" in a week or so. If you fancy a challenge, then do it. I'd recommend you get a Garmin though. Or run with Brita. Date of review: August 10, 2008

In short: A great summer evening In full: Superbly organised, brilliantly marshalled, rocky paths, marshy moors, and a bit of road. Quad killing ups, sphincter stimulating downs, and a nice glass of orange squash, all for less than the price of a pint and a half. Marvellous. Date of review: June 7, 2007

In short: Hard, hot and hurtful In full: This was knackering. I did Windermere a fortnight ago, and that was a breeze in comparison. Great views didn't compensate fully the fatigue and body ache, personally speaking, but that's my fault. I thought the organisation was good, and they can't be blamed if someone pinched the sorely missed 1st water station. A slow time not helped by the farmer refusiing to open the gate at 3k. A little churlish. I'd do it again, but only after a few weeks proper practise on the fells. Date of review: June 3, 2007

In short: awesome In full: Superb organisation, fabulous course, great atmosphere after the race. Thanks to everyone involved, it would be a crying shame if this was a one off rather than an annual event, please do it again Brathay. Respect to the crowds on the way, especially at Newby Bridge and at the finish. A great day out. Date of review: May 21, 2007

In short: great fun In full: This was my first competitive run for 20 years, since I was a wee boy in school. It lashed down but it was great. Superb organisation and encouragement throughout. Some moderately tough hills on nice quiet roads. Like others, I can't fathom why it's not more popular, but in a selfish kind of way I'm sort of glad it isn't. I'll be there in 2007. In short: Don't go out on the lash the night before In full: This was a good day out. It's hard, so don't get wrecked the night before like you did, Mike Hammond, but the organisation was good and the staff helpful and friendly. Fabulous weather and superb views. Anyone who gives the scenery a low score must be hard pleased. Definitely worth doing again, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a few hills. Thanks to all who helped organise it.
