In short: Great hills. Great scenery. Great race. In full: Really enjoyed my day in mid-Wales. A tough first 6 miles but the rest was flat or slightly undulating. Plenty of water stops and the mars bars were very welcome! Great training run if you have a spring marathon. Shame about being offered a L or XL t-shirt at the end (another for the pyjama drawer) but other than that the organisation cannot be faulted. Date of review: March 20, 2011

In short: MUD In full: Perhaps the toughest race I've done yet but a great one. Excellent organisation, well placed water stations and encouraging marshalls. The Clif bars and decent t-shirt were very welcome at the end. Not sure about 'The Ditch' - was it really necessary?! Will hopefully be back next year! Fantasic cake stall too... In short: A few things to improve on next year but overall a great first marathon for Brighton! In full: Preston Park was a great place to start the race although PLEASE provide more loos next year. I got into the queue at 8.25 and was still in it at 8.58! I had to then sprint to my start corall (wasn't very clear where my colour was) only to find the race wouldn't start for another 25 mins!!
Once we got going, it was a great race with magnificent crowd support along the majority of the route. First 10 miles had some cheeky hills but nothing major. Found it a bit uneccesarily narrow in some places (around mile 16-17) and the camber on Marine Parade sure gave me knee pain!
The 'road to hell' was indeed that - a stretch through an industrial estate with no crowd and no water left at one station! Really liked the 'wall' they'd built for us to run through though.
Miles 22-24 were strange - this really should've been taped off as the crowd were just milling around and some getting in the way!
Last mile was quite simply a wall of sound thanks to the brilliant crowd support. Once over the finish line, it all worked like clockwork. Easy bag pick up, great medal and goody bag!
Thanks Brighton - a few things to improve on but great first effort. Date of review: April 20, 2010

In short: Perfect pre marathon 20 miler. Very enjoyable but a few killer hills thrown in! In full: This race was perfectly placed to accommodate my last long run before Brighton marathon and it didn't disappoint. Very scenic in places and we were rewarded with great views following the MASSIVE hill at mile 7! Great camaraderie amongst the runners and quality t-shirt on finishing. Thanks to the marshalls. One quibble - what happened to the SiS Energy drinks that were promised!!! These would've hepled a bit....overall though, a lovely race and will be back before my next spring marathon. In short: 4th Bath half for me but don't think I'll be back again.... In full: Overall, this is a good and friendly race, perfect for beginners and a great crowd turnout...but I've just had enough of the runners village which always turns into a bog, whatever the weather, meaning trainers getting caked in mud. Toilets and baggage storage worked really well but the terrible system of funnelling 10,000 plus people through a narrow lane to and from the start/finish is bordering on inhumane!! Got seriously cold at the end after taking 20 mins to shuffle back into the village only to be handed a foodless goody bag... sorry for the whinge but I don't think I'll be back again. In short: Great race but a few quibbles.. In full: This year's route was great and better than last year although it's too narrow in places. Heard on the news that the organisers want to double the capacity by 2012!! Please don't! There were slightly too many people there yesterday! The water stations were a shambles! No prewarning of where they were located which resulted in a last minute scramble for bottles, much of which hadn't been opened for us! Overall, this is a great race with huge PB potential, great atmosphere, flat scenic course, an ok goody bag (why do I keep getting jars of cranberry sauce?) and lovely medal! Will definitely be back next year but please don't up the capacity. Date of review: October 19, 2009

In short: Great Half Marathon warm-up! In full: Glad this is scheduled before the Bristol half, better than doing laps of the Downs! Nice atmosphere and a very flat course. Results are up, but I don't seem to be on them yet :o( Date of review: September 1, 2008
