In short: Great race around Arundel to start then the hills above In full: Great to run around Arundel to start, up through the Castle grounds, beyond to the highest point (that long hill suits me instead of a number of short sharp ones), superb views here, a steep drop down and then another not too steep hill, before plunging back down through the castle grounds to the finish. Great crowd support, marshals and organisation. Date of review: August 27, 2012

In short: How many hills? In full: Thought it was one of those races with hay bales, nets etc. but...great use of Bramshott common, were all the hills used? Loads of short sandy hills with not much flat. Even got down to Prince of Wales at Hammer, before a steep climb back up and there was still one more steep hill to come! Field to park in, loads of course markings and white tape to stop you going wrong. Pricey, but the events there to make money. I'd do again and think about some of the other races. In short: Fun in the Surrey Hills! In full: I think I've done this one for the last 10 years. Great little traily kind of a race with just the right organisation. Tough hill to get up to Holbury Hill. Then up and down the v.long sandy slopes (4 times ish) with a few short, sharp hills mixed in before another plunge back down to the finish right next to the start. Took it not to bad up the first tough hill. So had enough puff for the rest and it worked! Mostly up though fir woods but the views from the summit at Holmbury just before 9 miles are superb. Thanks to the cheerful marshals and organisers and for kick starting the Summer! Sign me up for next year, I think! Date of review: July 23, 2012

In short: The Hurt, Hurt! In full: Nice race through the surrey hills with some very sharp, short hills some just about impossible to run up, lung and leg busting! Great organisation except signage. Loads of small signs up on trees. I'd would have put some large ones right on turns on stakes right at eye level. Almost went wrong after the top of Pitch and did go wrong on Holmbury. Great being on Sat. as still had the Sunday to do another run. Date of review: July 9, 2012

In short: Did know what to expect on this first time race, v.pleasently supprised! In full: Thought it was going to be all on the road but what a great course. Loads of variety, roads (closed), tarmac paths, tracks and footpaths along the river and what a drive up to Charterhouse. Well organised with loads of the small yellow arrows about the place. Maybe could do with a couple more marshals around 7 to 9 stretch? Hope it becomes an annual event if they can close the roads again. Date of review: June 4, 2012

In short: Sandy slog up and down the long hills though the fir forest In full: Always come back year after year but one of the hardest races I do in the year. By the end you are shattered. That long last climb from 11 to 12 miles is a killer. Not steep but man 'o man it seems to last forever. Great organisation and the marshals are a nice friendly lot. Water stations placed just at the right times with the course visiting them more than once. Those long hills really take it out of you and the count down is not miles but how many of the long hills you have left to do. Date of review: July 25, 2011

In short: Nice change from a traditional road race In full: Interesting route with lots of variety. A bit of road, woodland track, more road, lots along the picturest canal, steps and road. Marshals at key place, no chance of going wrong. Personally I'd have put a marshal at the lowest bridge, just in case (didn't a runner hit his head on it last year?). All in all a very enjoyable run and glad I entered. Not many races where you get an ex-London Marathon winner directing runners into the finishing straight! Date of review: January 24, 2011

In short: Amazing it went so well for the first race. All credit to the organisers. In full: I've only got admiration for the organisers of this event. To get the numbers of runners, race route sorted out including changes needed due to a horse event nearby and all the others organisation before and on the day; brillient! I took part in the half and found the course very varied, farm tracks, fields, heathland, woods, a little bit of tarmac but plenty of soft sand with plenty of hills but none were too long. The route was not easy to mark up due to some small paths being used and the number of junctions and the smallish signs you had to look out for but this was made up by the number of marshalls on the route, two or three on every major junction. Two runners ahaed of me went wrong. So I would suggest larger, better placed signs where junctions are un-marshalled. I've now got to decide what race to do if there is a clash next year with the Stanstead Slog. Date of review: September 20, 2010
