In short: Very Hilly Scenic Race. In full: Great organization and a decent medal. The course is a hilly single lap over uneven rutted paths. Distance is about 8.5 miles with the last mile on the road. Bottle of water at half way was just right. I can imagine on a very hot day those who are at the back may need more. On a par the the North Downs Run ion terms of organization and marshalling. Date of review: August 30, 2009
In short: Hot And Hilly In full: Beautifully sunny and hot day but not the best for a half. I died a death after half way as I overheated. Great organization and nice medal. Start and Finish in school grounds so good venue to meet friends and family. Hoped to cool my legs off in the pool but even that was hot. Date of review: August 23, 2009
In short: No marshal at a key turn and dozens went the wrong way, rubbish In full: Why there was no marshall at this point I have no idea as there were a huge amount stopping traffic and directing everywhere else. Sadly if just one point is ignored it ruins the day for all those effected . Luckily I was in a group just behind and saw everyone running back.
That said the race was faultless other than this cock up. A tad expensive but with the main sponser a charity its not much of a problem. The course was a lot harder than I expected with lots of short hills as you went over and under roads. Date of review: July 27, 2009
In short: Bravo, get it on you list of "must do" races In full: Trail running at its best. The organizers had meticulously sign posted the course plus there were marshalls everywhere. It was obvious that a lot of work had been carried out to prepare the course. Great attention to details, even spraying dog turds bright orange( genius ) Lots of well manned water stations which on a very hot day were required. Great support from marshalls and public.
In short: super flat, well organized but a tad dull In full: On paper this is an excellent venue for a race (traffic free, loads of parking, good club house, good for spectators) but the down side is that running twice round a manmade lake is a bit dull. The organization was excellent and cannot be faulted. Chip timing, a medal and a reasonable goody bag.
As there is no shade or shelter from the wind this course is always going to be open to the elements. Today is rained and was quite blustery which made it less fast but it would have been even harder if the sun was blazing. Date of review: June 6, 2009
In short: excellent race, with medal and bread pudding In full: positive's - great organization - loads of marshalls which was needed on a twisty course. - medal ( the only memento I require, my local charity shop has started refusing the usual oversized, poor quality tshirts that are usually dished out) - free homemade cakes - local police which are happy to give runners priority over cars.
